Have you seen Vizcom, it's a good example of how design tools and AI are converging. Especially in the idea/concept generation phase. https://www.vizcom.ai/

Midjourney Ai cannot pass a Turing test, and a Turing test itself is not any kind of a definite test whetehr there is actual intelligence in the interlocutor. But a decade ago, a veteran AI researcher and a regular keynote speaker on AI conferences told me that calling things like Midjournei AI the qualification “AI” is right, because human intelligence is just composed of many small skills, mind modules, that are to be replicated.

But, from that it follows that the pocket calculators from our childhoods are also “AI” which kind of waters down any distinction between computer and artificial intelligence.

On the other hand, the retired AI veteran Roger Schank, when on twitter, was constantly saying the so-called AI is "BS", "pure BS”. One of the articles he forwarded that describe his reasons :

And all of this issue does touch on the crucial questions in architecture.

... Let's ask ourselves what are our reactions to the words "artificial intelligence", ... and what are our reactions to the words "advanced software."

See the differences, and reflect about them for a moment.

In a similar vein, some well established and influential forces want us to perceive matters of architecture and urbanism in one way, and a smaller and less audible group of people, that wants us to perceive them in a way that's pretty much the opposite.

.

Schank who contanstly pointed out that what is called AI is pure “BS”.

Great piece! I am less optimistic, as many technological promises (especially those made by architects) did not lead to more human flourishing but instead resulted in unintended consequences. The automobile and the smartphone come to mind. Still, I am eager to see what kinds of changes AI will bring to architecture.
